The Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command (ESC) is investigating the death of a man at the Brisbane City Watchhouse on Monday.
In a statement, Police confirmed that a 55-year-old Thornlands man was arrested at his home at 10.50am on 17 July in relation to a return to prison warrant and was transported by officers to the Brisbane City Watchhouse.
“Shortly after 3pm on 20 July, the man advised he was feeling unwell and was assessed by nursing staff and other emergency services,” QPS said.
“The man became unresponsive and was declared deceased a short time later.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death.”
The ESC is investigating on behalf of the State Coroner, with independent oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
