Blue Mountains teacher on song for ARIA award

Blue Mountains teacher, Peter Earl, has been named as a finalist in the 2023 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards.

In a statement, the NSW Department of Education said that Peter’s fun, inclusive concert band programs for primary school students saw him named as one of four finalists in the Telstra 2023 ARIA Music Teacher Award.

“Peter’s nomination recognises his efforts in helping establish concert bands in nine NSW public primary schools across the Blue Mountains and western Sydney,” the Department said.

“The band program has been designed to motivate and engage young minds with the use of body percussion, theatrics, and games.

“Peter has also created resources for teachers and students to support music education in the classroom.”

Now in its seventh year, the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Award helps shine a light on the importance of music education and the essential role music teachers play.

The award recipient is selected through a public vote, with the winner announced at the ARIA Awards on 15 November.
