Blacktown officer named DV Practitioner of the Year

Blacktown Police officer Acting Sergeant Rebecca Abel has been named the Sabine Altman DV Practitioner of the Year Award by NSW Police.

The prestigious award, presented by Commissioner Mal Lanyon at Police Headquarters, recognises NSW Police employees who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and impact in responding to domestic and family violence over the past 12 months.

It celebrates individuals whose work exemplifies excellence, innovation, and dedication in this critical area of policing.

A/Sgt Abel (pictured, centre) is part of a Blacktown Police Domestic Violence Team leader.

“A/Sgt Abel’s leadership within the domestic violence team influenced cultural, community, and procedural change across both the NSW Police Force and Corrective Services NSW,” Blacktown Police said in a statement.

“Through her abilities in fostering collaboration and implement progressive strategies that has strengthened inter-agency partnerships and improved outcomes for victims of domestic and family violence.

“Under her guidance, the Blacktown DV team has become highly regarded across the metropolitan area for its professionalism, innovation, and victim-focused approach.

“Congratulations, A/Sgt Abel. Blacktown Police Area Command is proud of you and deeply grateful for your tireless efforts and transformative leadership.”

Monaro Police District Domestic Violence Officer, Constable Cook (pictured, below), was awarded a Highly Commended Finalist.
