Bankstown nurses sacked over antisemitic threats video

The NSW Police Force is investigating a social media video which shows two Bankstown Hospital nurses making antisemitic threats.

In a statement, NSW Police said Bankstown Police Area Command today launched an investigation into the video that has been circulated widely on social media.

“Officers attached to Strike Force Pearl have now taken carriage of the investigation,” NSW Police said.

“NSW Health believe they have identified the individuals involved and are currently assisting detectives with their investigation.

“A thorough investigation is underway.”

The two nurses have been stood down from Bankstown Hospital.

In the video, the pair speak with Jewish influencer, Max Veifer, and boast that they would kill Israeli patients.

Health Minister, Ryan Park, said the video was brought to his attention at around 7.20am today.

“We immediately, through my office, made contact with the [NSW Health] Secretary. She then informed the chief executives of a range of different hospitals to try and identify who the individuals were. They were identified very quickly.”

“Given the serious ramifications and given the serious, and vile and disgusting commentary, this went beyond an employer looking at this. It needed law enforcement to examine this and that is why we made the decision immediately to contact NSW Police.

“I’ve also spoken to the Healthcare Complaints Commissioner because I believe there will be a role at some point for that agency to be involved.”

When asked if the two nurses had offered any explanation for their actions, Mr Park said: “I don’t know what explanation any of these individuals could possibly give that in any would justify this disgusting, vile behaviour.”

The NSW Police Force takes hate crimes seriously and encourages anyone who is the victim of a hate crime or witnesses a hate crime to report the matter to police through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
