Emergency service workers and volunteers from around the world have united in Hobart to kick off the 19th Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games.
The Games see thousands of emergency service workers and volunteers from across Australia and the Pacific come together to compete in over 50 individual sporting events.
Tasmanian Minister for Police, Fire, and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis said the 2025 Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games will be one of the biggest multidiscipline sporting events to ever take place in Tasmania.
“The Games bring together police, fire, ambulance and SES, as well as those emergency staff that work in defence, customs, corrections, royal lifesaving, environment and the coast guard – just to name a few,” Minister Ellis said.
“Tasmania will see over 2000 competitors go head-to-head across a range of sports, all in the name of friendly competition and camaraderie.
“And while I know competition will be fierce on the field, behind that is the bond of friendship.
“Every year around the country – and internationally – our emergency services work hand-in-hand to keep our communities safe.
“We’ve seen this recently with our friends from NSW providing aerial support during the West Coast fires, and Tassie’s heroes in orange heading to QLD to help with flood recovery efforts.
“These everyday heroes deserve our absolute gratitude, and through our Government’s 2030 Strong plan for Tasmania’s Future, we will always back them in.”
The Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games are being held in Hobart from 15-22 March 2025. It is the second time the Games have been held in Hobart. The Games have now enjoyed a history spanning over 40 years, providing sporting, cultural and social activities for emergency services personnel throughout Australasia.
