Applications are now open for the 2026 Intern Recruitment Program, offering a vital first step for medical graduates ready to kickstart their careers in Western Australia’s public health system.
Internships provide newly qualified doctors with essential clinical experience, and Western Australia continues to offer strong support and opportunities for the next generation of medical professionals, said Health Minister, Meredith Hammat.
“Supporting our next generation of doctors is critical to the long-term strength and sustainability of WA’s health system,” said Minister Hammat.
“The 2026 Intern Recruitment Program offers medical graduates from WA and beyond a fantastic opportunity to start their careers in our world-class hospitals and health services.”
With an additional 14 positions for the 2026 clinical year, a total of 430 intern positions are available across six primary employing health sites.
WA’s centralised intern application process is co-ordinated by the Postgraduate Medical Council of WA (PMCWA), ensuring a streamlined, fair, and transparent recruitment system.
Graduates from WA’s medical schools, other Australian jurisdictions, New Zealand, and international medical schools accredited by the Australian Medical Council are encouraged to apply.
Applicants can apply via MedCareersWA, and nominate their preferences from the six primary employing health services:
- Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group;
- Joondalup Health Campus;
- Royal Perth Bentley Group;
- Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group;
- St John of God Health Care; and
- WA Country Health Service.
Applications close Thursday, 5 June at 12 noon (Australian Western Standard Time) and offers for all positions will begin in mid-July.
