Alliance team appointed to Perth entertainment precinct design

Detailed design development of the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct is set to begin shortly, with Seymour Whyte Constructions, Civmec Construction & Engineering and Aurecon Australasia announced as the preferred alliance team following a competitive tender process.

The alliance, comprising internationally renowned architects along with Western Australian manufacturers and builders, will be tasked with design, development, site investigations and early works preparation.

The alliance team are the same contractors behind the landmark Boorloo Bridge project.

“The new multi-purpose Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct at Burswood Park will elevate Western Australia’s standing as a premier place for sport and entertainment,” said Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti.

“The preferred alliance team announced today have delivered some of our most iconic projects including the new locally made Boorloo Bridge, which has become an incredible piece of public infrastructure.

“This project will deliver significant economic benefits to the State, as well as deliver quality public infrastructure for the local and wider community to benefit from for decades to come.

“I’m pleased the competitive tender process resulted in a strong Western Australian based team who can put WA-made at the forefront of this project.”

The Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct will include a new outdoor amphitheatre with capacity for 15,000 to 20,000 people, complementing nearby existing venues and entertainment infrastructure, such as Optus Stadium, Crown Perth and the surrounds.

Concept development will consider facilities to support live music and sporting events, including an annual Supercars event, cycling criterium racing and paralympic racing. Outside of official events, the precinct will be open to the entire community year-round, the Government confirmed.

Indicative concept direction.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Daniel Pastorelli, remains as government lead for the project and will chair the Project Steering Committee consisting of members from Transport, Tourism, Venues West and Burswood Park.

“Stakeholder and community consultation has generated hundreds of ideas which will inform how the precinct will be designed to ensure it’s used by as many Western Australians and visitors as possible,” said Mr Pastorelli.

“I want to thank everyone for their feedback, ideas and questions through this initial round of community consultation – a report will be finalised and released in coming weeks.

“The alliance team will be asked to respond to these ideas through the design and development stage and I look forward to working with this locally-based team to deliver for WA.

“The WA Government is committed to delivering this key election commitment, to help diversify the WA economy, creating new local jobs for future generations and building a world-class entertainment precinct that promotes the best of WA to the world.”

Precinct planning and design will begin upon award of the contract, with early works to commence later this year and precinct construction work expected to be complete in 2027.

Further stakeholder and community input will be invited as the design progresses in coming months, and people are encouraged to register for project updates via https://www.pesp.wa.gov.au/.
