A new ACT Government initiative, the Women’s Coaching and Officiating Support Program, is set to strengthen pathways for women in sport by providing financial support to develop female coaches and officials across the ACT.
The Territory Government is investing $50,000 to support sport and active recreation clubs, associations, and sporting organisations in delivering accredited training and leadership opportunities for women at all levels.
Applications are now open, with funding available for a wide range of initiatives, from group-based training programs to personalised support for individual development. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing organisations to tailor their approach to best meets the needs of their members and communities.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry says the program will create more opportunities for women to lead, coach and officiate in sport.
“This is a practical step forward in supporting gender equity in sport,” Minister Berry said.
“We’re proud to invest in the development of female leaders who inspire participation and excellence across all levels of sport.”
“By supporting clubs and organisations to deliver accredited training, we’re helping to build a more inclusive and representative sporting community.”
Tennis ACT CEO, Mark La Brooy said the initiative shows how a modest investment can deliver meaningful and lasting impact.
“By increasing the number of women coaches and officials, we not only improve gender equity across sporting environments, but also provide women and girls with access to strong role models,” said Mr La Brooy.
“These visible leaders help drive organic growth in female participation and contribute to long-term improvements in community health and wellbeing.”
