The NSW Government has unveiled designs for a revamped lookout in Western Sydney, which is set to provide open space and a new destination for walkers, runners and cyclists.
The plans look to transform ‘The Beauty Spot’ in Cecil Park which offers panoramic views across the Sydney Basin to the Blue Mountains, creating a unique visitor experience within Western Sydney Parklands.
Located 40 kilometres from Sydney’s CBD within Liverpool’s LGA, the spot is one of the region’s highest natural viewpoints at 149 metres above sea level.
“This revamped lookout will celebrate the unique landscapes and expansive views of Western Sydney already offered by the Beauty spot,” said Planning Minister, Paul Scully.
“With this work we want to unlock the Beauty spot’s full potential so that it is a place where people can gather, relax and enjoy natural beauty.
“This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s long-term vision for the Southern Parklands, creating places that support community wellbeing, encourage active lifestyles and strengthen connections with Country.”

The local community is being invited to have a say on the plans which include an open viewing platform located on the ridgeline, allowing visitors to experience the landscape from multiple perspectives.
The draft concept design will be delivered in stages by the NSW Government and has been designed to complement the site’s natural topography and open grassland character while showcasing Western Sydney’s best views.
Greater Sydney Parklands Chief Executive, Joshua French said the lookout provides another opportunity to get outdoors and explore the natural beauty of Western Sydney Parklands.
“The design creates an open and expansive lookout experience along the ridgeline, encouraging visitors to slow down, immerse themselves in the landscape and take in the changing views across Western Sydney and towards the Blue Mountains,” he said.

Stage 1 will deliver the lookout, pathways, seating, native landscaping and viewing areas with construction expected to begin in late 2026 and be completed mid-2027.
Future stages will incorporate shade structures and opportunities to celebrate First Nations culture through integrated interpretation and storytelling within the lookout. They will also explore opportunities to expand The Beauty Spot Lookout into a broader visitor destination, with improved access and entry points, visitor parking, amenities, shelters and spaces for gathering and recreation.
The project is part of Greater Sydney Parklands’ Southern Parklands Framework, a long-term vision to enhance recreation, visitor experiences and connections to nature across the southern precinct of Western Sydney Parklands.
Community feedback on the draft concept design is open from 31 August to 27 September at greatersydneyparklands.nsw.gov.au/beautyspot.
