The WA Government has awarded the forward works contract for the $167 million Bentley Health Service Surgicentre to Cooper & Oxley.
Jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments, the new surgicentre will significantly expand elective surgery capacity, boosting access to health care in Perth’s south-eastern corridor, and helping more Western Australians access planned procedures sooner.
Forward works are expected to commence soon and will include the delivery of more than 300 staff and visitor car bays, in-ground services, and earthworks to prepare the site for construction of the new surgicentre.
“The Bentley Health Service Surgicentre will deliver more operating theatres, more surgical beds, and greater elective surgery capacity for Western Australians,” said WA Health Infrastructure Minister, John Carey.
“This project is about building infrastructure that delivers real benefits for patients, healthcare staff, and the wider community, while supporting jobs and economic activity during construction.”
Designed by Silver Thomas Hanley Architecture, the purpose-built surgicentre will include:
- six state-of-the-art operating theatres;
- two dedicated procedure rooms;
- a 24-bed surgical ward;
- a day-stay unit with 42 patient bays and 15 discharge lounge spaces; and
- a new Central Sterilisation Services Department.
By supporting the separation of planned procedures from emergency care, the surgicentre will improve patient flow and provide greater capacity to efficiently deliver elective surgery across a range of specialities while reducing pressure across the broader hospital system.
This project forms part of the Cook Labor Government’s record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure, delivering additional capacity and contemporary health facilities to meet the needs of WA’s growing population.
