Canberra community sporting clubs and organisations can now apply for a share of more than $4.6 million through the ACT Government’s 2026 Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme (SRIS).
Funding is available through the Industry Partnership Program, State Organisation Support Program, Community Sport Facilities Program and Club Enhancement Program, supporting initiatives that build stronger, more sustainable sporting organisations and communities.
“Since 2023, more than $13 million in grants have been awarded to clubs and organisations across Canberra,” said Minister for Sport and Recreation, Chris Steel.
“We are inviting sporting clubs to come forward with proposals for upgrades to existing facilities and constructing new facilities that grow participation in sport.
“Supporting more women and girls into leadership positions as coaches, umpires and officials is critical to the future of sport in the Territory. More women in these roles means more role models for young athletes and a stronger and more representative sporting community.”
Applications are also open for the Women’s Coaching and Officiating Support Program, helping more women and girls to take on coaching and officiating roles across community sport.
Previous Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme funding is already delivering benefits across Canberra, from better facilities and equipment to stronger coaching and development opportunities.
Projects funded through the 2026 SRIS include new LED lighting at the Belconnen United Sharks Rugby League Football Club, accessibility improvements at Canberra Dragon Boats Association’s Grevillea Park facility, irrigation redevelopment at Murrumbidgee Country Club, and support for Rowing ACT through funding for a new umpire boat, planning for the Yarramundi Reach regatta course finish tower and a female coach and mentor development program.
Rowing ACT President, Kent Peters said the organisation was grateful for the ACT Government’s continued investment in the sport and community.
“This funding is helping us modernise the way we deliver regattas, strengthen officiating and coaching pathways, enhance safety on the water, and progress planning for future rowing infrastructure,” said Mr Peters.
“These investments create lasting benefits for athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers, and will help ensure rowing continues to thrive across the ACT for years to come.”
Information on eligibility and application requirements is available through the Sport and Recreation website.
