The Northern Territory Government has pledged $4.4 million over three years in its Safer Business, Stronger Economy and Better Lifestyle Package.
Eligible businesses can access up to $10,000 for security works, with business precincts able to apply for funding to create safer, more vibrant main streets.
Since July 2025, more than 200 Territory businesses have already been supported with nearly $1.5 million in security works through the former Biz Secure program.
The Safer Business, Stronger Economy and Better Lifestyle Package is the next evolution of the Biz Secure program – expanding its reach, streamlining access and delivering more support for Territory businesses.
The Safer Business Program gives eligible fixed and mobile businesses access to up to $10,000 in a 50:50 co-contribution to undertake preventive security works while the Safer Precincts Program provides competitive grant funding to business precincts for strategic projects on common property.
Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill said the funding injection will create safer, more welcoming spaces for customers and communities, “giving Territory businesses the certainty they need to get on with the job”.
“Safe businesses are open businesses and open businesses mean jobs, growth and the lifestyle that Territorians deserve,” she said.
To make the program more accessible, the mandated safety audit requirement has been removed, the Minister confirmed.
A new online Business Safety and Security Checklist is now available to help business owners identify risks, assess their current arrangements, and understand what improvements may be needed better to protect their staff, customers, and premises.
