A new $30 million VET Futures Fund will deliver new and upgraded industry-standard equipment at colleges, secondary schools and Trade Training Centres across Tasmania, the State Government has announced.
A key element of the Tasmanian Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania, the VET Futures Fund will help support a job-ready generation of young Tasmanians, said Minister for Education, Jo Palmer.
Minister Palmer said the $30 million investment will deliver modern, fit-for-purpose VET facilities and the purchase of industry standard equipment in our schools.
“Eligible secondary schools, colleges and Trade Training Centres are now invited to submit proposals for up to $50,000 for equipment that will improve their programs,” she said.
“Our Government is committed to providing students with the specialist skills they need for a rewarding career.”
Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said young Tasmanians deserved the smoothest possible pathway from school into the world of work.
“VET programs are reducing skill shortages through practical training and diverse learning, preparing young people for success,” Minister Ellis said.
“Making sure young Tasmanians can access the training they need for the jobs of the future will be a key driver in our upcoming Youth Jobs Strategy, and this investment will go a long way to making sure that happens.”
Government schools can request funds to upgrade or replace existing equipment, purchase new equipment for existing courses to meet or exceed industry standards, or acquire equipment to support the introduction of new VET qualifications.
All submissions must be directly linked to VET qualifications scheduled for delivery in 2025.
Submissions close on 27 September 2024, with allocations to be announced in Term 4, 2024.
