$3 million drug haul seized in Gladstone trafficking operation

Queensland Police have charged 25 people with 235 offences and seized more than $3 million worth of illicit drugs as part of a nine-month trafficking investigation in the Gladstone region.

Operation Promontory – a joint Gladstone Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and State Drug Squad operation – culminated this month with the dismantling of what Police say was a long-standing drug supply syndicate.

“Crime scenes were established at two residential properties at Toolooa and Glen Eden, and an extensive search of bushland was conducted, which led to the alleged seizure of over 7.5 kilograms of methylamphetamine, 300g of cocaine, 360 pounds of cannabis, and other illicit substances,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“It will be further alleged officers located and seized over $1 million in cash and seized multiple vehicles and other assets used in the commission of crime.”

Twenty-five people have been charged with 235 offences, including 11 people charged with trafficking dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine and cannabis).

Office in charge of Gladstone CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Richard, said the operation has yielded significant results in dangerous drug operations.

“We are confident that Operation Promontory has successfully dismantled a deeply entrenched drug syndicate, significantly disrupting the supply of illicit drugs in the Gladstone region,” said Det Snr Sgt Richard.

“There is no place for illicit drugs within our community, and investigators will continue to hold offenders to account.”
