17-year-old P-plater clocked at 189km/h

A 17-year-old provisional licence holder has been intercepted travelling at 189km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Sunshine Motorway at Mountain Creek.

In a statement, Queensland Police said that just after midnight on Friday, 31 January, officers detected the vehicle at approximately 12.13am during routine patrols and intercepted the driver shortly after.

The driver was issued a $1,854 infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, the highest category of speeding offence in Queensland, along with an automatic six month licence suspension and eight demerit points.

The driver also received additional infringements for defective vehicle ($322) and failing to display P-plates ($267) as required under Queensland road rules.

“Police would like to remind road users that factors such as speeding have a direct consequence on your safety and those around you,” Queensland Police said.
