162kgs of copper wire seized from Pacific Pines home

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have seized more than 160 kilograms of copper wire during the arrest of a 50-year-old Pacific Pines man as part of a proactive operation targeting property crime on the Gold Coast.

In a statement, Queensland Police said that at around 9am on 19 February, detectives attended a residence at Pacific Pines as part of ongoing investigations into drug activity and property-related offending.

During a search of the home, officers located a quantity of methylamphetamine, drug utensils including electronic scales with residue, and numerous used hypodermic syringes. Detectives also found a significant quantity of copper wiring inside the garage of the dwelling.

“It will be alleged approximately 162 kilograms of copper wiring and electrical conduit were seized, along with tools including bolt cutters and equipment consistent with stripping copper cabling,” Queensland Police said.

Police will allege the copper wiring was stolen from a building site and further inquiries are underway, including investigations linked to recent copper thefts across the district.

The man has been given a notice to appear for two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of supplying dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property, possessing utensils that had been used in connection with a dangerous drug offence, and failing to properly dispose of a needle and syringe.

He is due to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court on 17 March.
