The Northern Territory Government has pledged $15 million to help progress design plans for a new $20 million public library for Alice Springs.
The new library is being delivered in partnership with Alice Springs Town Council, with a $5 million investment from the Council.
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment and Member for Braitling, Joshua Burgoyne said it was fantastic to see another important milestone reached for the new library.
“Our Government is delivering on our commitment to Alice Springs – that’s why we have invested almost $15 million to help make this project a reality,” Minister Burgoyne said.
“We are investing in the infrastructure and facilities that will strengthen our community and make Alice Springs an even better place to live.”
Acting Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Marie-Clare Boothby said the Government has listened to Alice Springs locals and is delivering for them.
“Whether it’s the Visitor Information Centre, the new Multicultural Centre, the Gillen Oval Multi-Sport Precinct, or a new skate park, we’re investing in the infrastructure local families and businesses need to lay down their roots and grow,” said the Minister.
“In our year of growth, certainty, and security, we are doing exactly what we said we’d do: rebuilding the economy and restoring our lifestyle.”
Alice Springs Mayor, Asta Hill said progressing to the detailed design stage marked an important milestone in bringing a new library to life for the Alice Springs community.
“Community feedback has played a central role in shaping the concept design. By listening to the people who use and value the Library, we are working towards a facility that is accessible, functional and welcoming for everyone,” she said.
“The detailed design phase will now build on those ideas and develop the technical plans needed to prepare the project for construction.”
