WA Education Minister, Tony Buti, has officially opened the new $15 million double-storey modular building at Shenton College which he says will help address enrolment growth at the school.
Built by Ausco Modular workers in Kwinana, the innovative double-storey building can accommodate an additional 300 secondary students, helping to ease enrolment pressures.
The build also minimised the impact on school students and staff due to the majority of construction occurring off site, and the delivery of the building modules occurring during school holidays.
“All students and their families should have access to a great education close to home,” said Minister Buti.
“This new modular building adds to the already outstanding infrastructure of Shenton College and will provide greater leadership development for Year 9 students and teachers.
“We are currently seeing remarkable population growth across our State, and it is important we keep pace with great schools, and this building shows what can be done in a short period of time.”
The state-of-the-art facilities include 11 general learning classrooms, a science classroom, staff areas and toilet facilities. Shenton College currently has more than 2,800 students enrolled with an additional 38 students at the co-located Shenton College Deaf Education Centre.
Highgate Primary School will also receive a two-storey modular building to address enrolment growth, in advance of the new East Perth Primary School being opened.
The Government is delivering increased funding for new and expanded primary and secondary schools, to keep pace with school enrolments and support WA’s growing suburbs and regional areas.
It includes $79.6 million on new transportable buildings to enable flexible and timely expansion of capacity in public schools. This is part of the WA Labor Government’s record $4.4 billion investment in new and improved school infrastructure across the State.
