Tasmania’s electric vehicle (EV) network is set to be strengthened with the installation of 11 new public charging stations across the State.
“Electric vehicles are growing in popularity in Tasmania, which is great. But some charging stations are either approaching capacity, or will get there in the near future,” said Minister for the Environment, Madeleine Ogilvie.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we want to make sure that wherever you are in Tassie, you can easily locate and conveniently use a public charging station.
“More EVs on our streets are better for the climate and environment and create more pleasant walking and driving experiences.”
The $550,000 upgrade joins $1.3 million provided to date under the ChargeSmart program, resulting in the installation of 33 fast chargers and 46 workplace chargers across Tasmania.
Transport is Tasmania’s second-highest emitting sector, responsible for 22% of the state’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
The upgrade is being made possible thanks to round three of ChargeSmart, which offers grants of up to $50,000 to install new stations.
ChargeSmart is an initiative of the Tasmanian Government’s Transport Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan 2024-29.
